The author proves the following result: Let \(X:=(X,\|\cdot\|)\) be a strictly convex Banach space whose predual space is \(Y\), that is, \(X=Y'\), having the weak star sequentially compact unit ball and the unit ball of the dual space \(X'\) is weak star sequentially compact. Suppose that \(X\) has the weak star Kadec-Klee property, that is, \(\|x_n-x\|\to0\) whenever \(\{x_n\}\) is a sequence in \(X\) such that it converges weak star to \(x\in X\) for the topology \(\sigma(X,Y)\) and \(\lim_n\|x_n\|=\|x\|\). Then \(X\) has the fixed point property in the following sense: For every closed bounded convex nonempty subset \(C\) of \(X\), every mapping \(T:C\to C\) satisfying \(\|Tx-Ty\|\le\|x-y\|\) for all \(x,y\in C\) has a fixed point.
