Throughout the paper under review, \(\mathcal{A}\) and \(\mathcal{B}\) are associative \(2\)-torsion free rings satisfying the following Condition (P): ``Let \(a\in\mathcal{A}\) (resp.\ \(\mathcal{B}\)). If \(xax=0\) for all \(x\in\mathcal{A}\) (resp.\ \(\mathcal{B}\)), then \(a=0\)'', and \(\mathcal{M}\) is a faithful \((\mathcal{A},\mathcal{B})\)-bimodule. In the main theorem, the authors prove that every Jordan derivation on the triangular ring \(\mathrm{Tri}(\mathcal{A},\mathcal{M},\mathcal{B})\) is a derivation. As a consequence of the main theorem, they obtain a result of \textit{J.-H. Zhang} and \textit{W.-Y. Yu} [Linear Algebra Appl. 419, No. 1, 251--255 (2006; Zbl 1103.47026)] and the following: Corollary 2. For the \(n\times n\) upper triangular matrix algebra \(\mathcal{T}_n\) over \(\mathbb{C}\), every Jordan derivation on \(\mathcal{T}_n\) is a derivation. Corollary 3. For a nontrivial nest \(\mathcal{N}\) in a Hilbert space \(H\) with the nest algebra \(\mathcal{T}(\mathcal{N})\) associated to \(\mathcal{N}\), every Jordan derivation on \(\mathcal{T}(\mathcal{N})\) is a derivation. Theorem 3. For a \(2\)-torsion free ring \(\mathcal{A}\) satisfying Condition (P), every Jordan derivation on \(\mathcal{A}\) is a derivation.
