The authors consider a particular class of superintegrable systems, i.e., systems in classical or quantum mechanics which possess more conserved quantities than the degrees of freedom. While for integrable systems the original motion is reduced to the motion on a \(n\)-torus, for superintegrable systems there exist much stronger constraints, allowing one to determine, in the case of maximal superintegrability, the exact trajectories. The authors study a certain class of three-dimensional systems, admitting separable coordinates, in the presence of a magnetic field. They investigate the conditions under which the existence of an additional integral of motion reduces the motion to the one of a superintegrable two-dimensional system without external magnetic field. The conditions of minimal and maximal superintegrability are discussed in detail, and a complete classification is given up to the quadratic order. In addition, some theorems allow the authors to construct some examples of non-trivial higher-order superintegrable systems.
