The paper deals with the existence of solutions of an equation of the form \[(^*)\quad c\phi'(\xi)=\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty}K(y)\phi(\xi-y)dy-\alpha\phi(\xi)+f(\phi(\xi)),\quad \xi\in\mathbb{R},\] such that \(\phi(-\infty)=0.\) Here, the kernel \(K\) may take positive and negative real values. Solutions of this equation generate traveling wave solutions of a nonlocal evolution equation of the form \[u_t(x,t)=\int_{-\infty}^{+\infty}K(y)u(x-y,t)dy-\alpha u(x,t)+f(u(x,t)),\quad x\in \mathbb{R} \text{ and } t>0.\] The authors provide suitable conditions to construct a pair of upper-lower solutions \((\bar{\phi},\underline{\phi})\) and then, by using Schauder's fixed point theorem, they show that there is a solution \(\phi\) of \((^*)\) between them. Moreover, in the last section, the authors provide conditions guaranteeing the fact that a solution \(\phi\) exists satisfying \(\phi(+\infty)=1.\)
