The purpose of this article is to describe the geometric structures on the cotangent bundle \(T^*M\) of a compact manifold \(M\) in order to study (infinitesimal) symmetries and conservation laws of regular Hamiltonian systems. Similar to the construction of the tangent bundle [\textit{I. Bucataru} et al., Int. J. Geom. Methods Mod. Phys. 8, No. 6, 1291--1327 (2011; Zbl 1286.34018); \textit{M. Crampin} et al., Ann. Inst. Henri Poincaré, Phys. Théor. 65, No. 2, 223--249 (1996; Zbl 0912.58002)], which provides a geometric setting for the study of second-order ordinary differential equations, these geometric structures, with an induced nonlinear connection and dynamical covariant derivative on \(T^*M\) (see [the author, Int. J. Geom. Methods Mod. Phys. 13, No. 5, Article ID 1650071, 17 p. (2016; Zbl 1357.53032)]), allow one to characterize exact infinitesimal symmetries and Noetherian conservation laws.
