In the theory of distributions the test functions are smooth, which promoted studies involving non-smooth functions; e.g., in the sense of finite parts and pseudo functions. The theory with regard to singular points is known as thick distribution theory, which in one dimension was developed by \textit{R.~Estrada} and \textit{S.~A. Fulling} [Int. J. Appl. Math. Stat. 10, No. SO7, 25--37 (2007; Zbl 1153.46025)] and further extended to higher dimensions by the author and \textit{R.~Estrada} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 401, No. 2, 821--835 (2013; Zbl 1281.46037)]. In Section~2, the author discusses the one and higher-dimensional thick distribution theory of test functions and the thick distribution space, and their properties such as duality, and the thick distributional derivative. Section~3 contains the main part of the present paper which is divided into four subsections, where the author reconstructs the one-dimensional thick distributions using their asymptotic expansions behaviour. This theory is more aligned with that of the higher-dimensional thick distribution theory. In view of this, the ``$0$-dimensional unit sphere'', polynomials and Heaviside functions are proposed as examples. In Lemma~1, the relation between the asymptotic expansions with respect to $x$ and $r$ are discussed. Based on the asymptotic behaviour, the derivative and term-by-term derivative for thick functions are employed in Theorem~2 and Theorem~3. The thick test functions in one dimension which admit a strong asymptotic expansion are defined in Section~3.2. As an extension of new thick test functions, the one-dimensional new thick distribution space is defined, with examples, in Section~3.3. Further, in Section~3.4, algebraic and analytic operations in the thick distribution theory are studied. The solution of a problem pointed out by \textit{G. F. Paskusz}, ``Comments on `Transient analysis of energy equation of dynamical systems'\,'', IEEE Trans. Educ. 43, No. 2, 242 (2000; \url{doi:10.1109/13.848080})], of multiplying Schwartz distributions within thick distribution theory, is also mentioned.
