The authors consider \(H_2\) optimal model order reduction of multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) discrete systems based on the cross Gramian. The \(H_2\) optimal problem is treated as an unconstrained optimization problem defined on the product manifold, and the projection matrix is not applied to the input and output matrices. An iterative algorithm is proposed to reduce the MIMO discrete system, while the numerical example is employed to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed method.
