This paper deals with the study of a nonlinear nonhomogeneous elliptic problem with parametric potential term and Robin boundary condition. The reaction is a Carathéodory function which is only locally defined. The main result of this paper establishes that for all values of the parameter in an upper half line, the equation has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions. The authors also give sign information, namely two solutions have constant sign and the third one is nodal. Next, assuming a symmetry hypothesis on the reaction, the authors establish the existence of a sequence of nodal solutions converging to zero in a suitable topology. The proofs rely on refined variational and topological methods.
