The paper under review generalizes several results on reductive group actions to algebraically non-closed fields. Let \(k\) be a perfect field with algebraic closure \(K\). Let \(G\) be a reductive \(k\)-group acting on a \(k\)-dense variety \(X\). Fix a minimal parabolic \(k\)-subgroup \(P \subset G\) and define \(c_P(X)\), the complexity of \(X\), as the minimal codimension of \(P\)-orbits in \(X\). One defines the rank \(\mathrm{rk}_P(X)\) similarly. These quantities can also be defined for any \(P\)-invariant subvarieties of \(X\). We say \(X\) is \(k\)-spherical if there is an open \(P\)-orbit in \(X\), that is, \(c_P(X) = 0\). This scenario is playing an increasingly important role in representation theory. Theorem 1 asserts that when \(k\) is perfect, \(\mathrm{rk}_P(Y) \leq \mathrm{rk}_P(X)\) and \(c_P(Y) \leq c_P(X)\) for any \(P\)-invariant \(k\)-dense subvariety \(Y \subset X\). Theorem 2 asserts that when \(X\) is \(k\)-spherical, it has only finitely many \(P\)-orbits containing \(k\)-points. The paper contains a detailed sketch of the proof of Theorem 2. As for Theorem 1, a short sketch for locally compact \(k\) is given in the last page. The paper also includes several results on the strong \(k\)-stability of reductive subgroups acting on the flag variety. For example, Theorem 3 is a generalization of Popov's criterion of stability to algebraically non-closed fields.
