Mirror symmetry has remained an exciting and active area of research at the interface between contemporary theoretical physics and pure mathematics. These wonderful lecture notes constitute a part of the excellent book [\textit{E. Clader} (ed.) and \textit{Y. Ruan} (ed.), B-model Gromov-Witten theory. Cham: Birkhäuser (2018; Zbl 1411.14003)]. With this tome of over 300 pages, the author explains, to both mathematicians and physicists from the PhD level, some of the new ideas and techniques that have been developed in the course of considering compactifications of string theories from their critical dimension on special holonomy manifolds M (such as Calabi-Yau manifolds) to four dimensions. He gives an in-depth overview from a physical perspective, covering such topics as the monodromy group and Picard-Fuchs equations, tt* structures, the holomorphic anomaly equation, and modularity properties. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1411.14003].
