Let \(F(X)\) be the free topological group over a Tychonoff space \(X\). The space \(X\) is called Fréchet-Urysohn if for each \(x \in \bar{A} \subset X\) there is a sequence \(\{x_n\}\) such that \(\{x_n\}\) converges to \(x\) and \(\{x_n: n \in \mathbb N\} \subset A\). For \(n \in \mathbb N\), \(F_n(X)\) is the subspace of \(F(X)\) that consists of all words of reduced length at most \(n\) with respect to the free basis \(X\). In this paper, the authors give a proof of Yamada's conjecture: If the set of all non-isolated points of a metrizable space \(X\) is compact, then \(F_4(X)\) is Fréchet-Urysohn.
