The authors investigate the dynamics of one-dimensional polynomial maps \[ P(x)=ax^m(x+b)(x-b) \] on the interval \([-b,b]\) with real parameters \(a,b\) and a positive integer \(m\). Under certain conditions they establish the existence of periodic points with even periods except for one fixed point, coexistence of two attractors (i.e., an attracting fixed point and an hidden attractor), the existence of a double period-doubling bifurcation different from the classical period-doubling bifurcation and finally the occurence of Li-Yorke chaos. Furthermore, the generalized Hénon map \[ f(x,y)=(dy, P(y)+cx) \] with reals \(c,d\) satisfying \(cd\neq 0\) is investigated. For particular parameter values, there coexist an attracting fixed point and a hidden attractor. Moreover, the existence of a Smale horseshoe for a subshift of finite type and the occurence of Li-Yorke chaos are shown.
