Various useful properties of the Moreau envelope for proper convex lower semicontinuous functions defined on finitely dimensional spaces are presented. The main new contributions concern the Moreau envelopes of gauge functions and piecewise cubic functions, that are throughoutly investigated. Comparisons to the Pasch-Hausdorff envelope are also presented. A discussion about smoothing a gauge function via the Moreau envelope is provided, too. Some examples illustrate the theoretical results. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1417.49001].
