The paper under review proves a generalisation of Manin's Unity theorem to Kummer surfaces. Specifically, Manin's Unity theorem proves that the point-counting function (over a finite field) on certain total spaces of families of algebraic curves satisfies a differential equation called the Picard-Fuchs equation. In this paper, the authors generalise the Picard-Fuchs equation to a system of differential equations that they call the Picard-Fuchs system. They then consider a Kummer surface \(X\) associated to the product of two non-isogenous elliptic cures. In this case, there are two different families of elliptic curves on \(X\), corresponding to the two projections inherited from the product. The authors show that \(X\) satisfies their Picard-Fuchs system. This enables them to establish two different expressions for the same point-counting function (namely, the one on \(X\)), and thereby generate a relationship between two special functions.
