Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with identity element and \(A\) a unital associative \(R\)-algebra. For arbitrary elements \(a,b\in A\), we set \([a,b]_ 0 = a\), \([a,b]_ 1 = ab-ba\), and inductively \([a,b]_ k = [[a,b]_{k},b]\). Denote by \(Z (A)\) the center of \(A\). An \(R\)-linear mapping \(\Theta: A \to A\) is said to be \(k\)-commuting on \(A\) if \([\Theta(a),a]_ k = 0\) for all \(a\in A\). In particular, an \(R\)-linear mapping \(\Theta: A \to A\) is called \textit{commuting} on \(A\) if \([\Theta(a),a] = 0\) for all \(a\in A\). A \(k\)-commuting mapping of an \(R\) -algebra \(A\) is called \textit{proper} if it has the form \(\Theta(a) = \lambda a + \zeta (a)\), for all \(a\in A\), where \(\lambda\in Z(A)\) and \(\zeta : A \to Z (A)\) is an \(R\)-linear mapping.\par A \textit{Morita context} consists of two unital \(R\)-algebras \(A\) and \(B\), two bimodules \(_AM_ B\) and \(_B N_ A\) which satisfy some natural conditions that allow to define a \textit{generalized matrix algebra} of order 2 on the set:\[\left [\begin{matrix} A & M\\ N& B \end{matrix}\right] =\left\{\left [\begin{matrix} a & m\\ n& b \end{matrix}\right] \bigg \vert \ a\in A, m\in M, n\in N, b\in B\right\}. \] The authors study \(k\)-commuting mappings of generalized matrix algebras. The general form of arbitrary \(k\)-commuting mapping of a generalized matrix algebra is determined. It is shown that under mild assumptions, every \(k\)-commuting mapping of a generalized matrix algebra takes a certain form which is said to be proper. A number of applications related to \(k\)-commuting mappings are presented. \par The paper is a generalization of results of \textit{W.-S. Cheung} [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II.
