Let \(\Sigma\) be a smooth connected compact surface of genus \(\gamma\) with \(m>0\) connected boundary components. Fix a Riemannian metric \(g\) on \(\Sigma\) and let \(L:C^\infty(\partial\Sigma)\rightarrow C^\infty(\partial\Sigma)\) be the Dirichlet to Neumann operator. Let \(0=\sigma_0<\sigma_1(\Sigma,g)\le\cdots\) be the Steklov eigenfunctions counted with multiplicity. For scaling reasons, consider the functionals \(\sigma_k(\Sigma,g)L_g(\partial\Sigma)\). The author shows that modulo some gap assumptions, these functionals admit maximal metrics arising from an associated minimal surface with free boundary from \(\Sigma\) into some Euclidean ball.
