The UMI archives -- debates in the Italian mathematical community, 1922--1938 (Q2325882)

In recent times, the history of the founding of the Italian Mathematical Union (UMI), and more generally, the history of Italian mathematics under the fascist regime has been investigated from different points of view by different scholars, including the authors of the present paper. This paper, based on material held in the archives of the UMI, sheds new light on a crucial period of time in the early life of UMI, especially on the ``key year'' 1938 -- as the authors call it -- in which racial laws were enacted in Italy.
