Stillman's conjecture was stated in [\textit{I. Peeva} and \textit{M. Stillman}, J. Commut. Algebra 1, No. 1, 159--195 (2009; Zbl 1187.13010)] as follows. Fix a sequence of natural numbers \(a_1, \dots, a_r\). Does there exist a number \(q\), such that \(\mathrm{reg} (W/J) \leq q\) if \(W\) is a polynomial ring (over \(k\)) and \(J\) is a graded ideal with a minimal system of homogeneous generators of degrees \(a_1,\dots ,a_r\)? Note that the number of variables in the polynomial ring \(W\) is not fixed. This conjecture has already been proven (by \textit{T. Ananyan} and \textit{M. Hochster} [``Small subalgebras of polynomial rings and Stillman's conjecture'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1610.09268}]) and generalized, and it continues to generate great interest (for instance the problem of finding an optimal \(q\) given \(a_1,\dots,a_r\)). The current paper offers two new proofs. They do this via some results that show that certain limits of polynomial rings are themselves polynomial rings.
