Let \(\operatorname*{Fr}(X)\) be the frame bundle over a 6-dimensional \(X\), which is a principal \(\mathrm{GL}(6;\mathbb{R})\)-bundle over \(X\). A subbundle of \(\operatorname*{Fr}(X)\) is said to be an \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structure on \(X\) (\(\mathrm{SU}(3)\subset\mathrm{GL}(6;\mathbb{R})\)) if the structure group is contained in \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\). Similarly a subbundle of the frame bundle of a 7-manifold \(Y\) is said to be a \(G_{2}\)-structure on \(Y\) if the structure group is contained in \(G_{2}\); that is, the Lie group defined as the linear automorphism group of the standard definite 3-form \(\phi_0\) on \(\mathbb{R}^7\). An \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structure on a 6-manifold is identified with a pair \((\omega,\psi)\) where \(\omega\) and \(\psi\) are a real 2-form and 3-form respectively. And a \(G_{2}\)-structure on a 7-manifold is identified with the definite 3-form \(\phi\) pointwisely isomorphic to the standard definite 3-form \(\phi_0\). The geometry of \(G_2\)-structures on 7-manifolds is closely related to that of \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structures on 6-manifolds. For a one-parameter family \(\left(\omega(t),\psi(t)\right) \), \(t\in(t_1,t_2)\), of \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structures on a 6-manifold \(X\), the 3-form \(\omega(t)\wedge dt+\psi(t)\) is a \(G_2\)-structures on \(X\times(t_1,t_2)\). Conversely, any \(G_2\)-structure on a 7-manifold \(Y\) is locally described by one-parameter families of \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structures on 6-dimensional hypersurfaces in \(Y\). In the paper under review the author studies torsion-free \(G_2\)-structures given in terms of one-parameter families of \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structures on \(T^{3}\)-or \(\mathrm{SO}(3)\)-bundles. Let \(P\) be the total space of a principal \(G\)-bundle over a 3-manifold \(M\), with \(G\) being a connected 3-dimensional Lie group. Let \((\omega,\psi)\) be \(G\)-invariant 2--3-forms defining a special Lagrangian \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structure on \(P\) in the sense that both vanish along the fibers. The author proves that if \(G\) is unimodular then such an \(\mathrm{SU}(3)\)-structure decomposes uniquely into a triple of solder 1-form \(e\), connection 1-form \(a\) and equivariant positive-definite symmetric \(3\times3\) matrix-valued function \(S\) on \(P\). As applications of the results, a locally description of \(T^3\)- and \(\mathrm{SO}(3)\)-invariant torsion-free \(G_2\)-structures whose definite 3-forms vanish along the fibers as orbits of constrained dynamical systems on the space of triples is given.
