For the Cauchy problem of 2-D quasilinear wave equations of the form \(\Box u=F(\partial u,\partial^2 u)\) satisfying null conditions, \textit{S. Alinhac} [Invent. Math. 145, No. 3, 597--618 (2001; Zbl 1112.35341)] proved the global existence of classical solutions with small initial data. His proof relies on the Lorentz invariance of wave equations and the compact support assumption of the initial data. The main contribution of this paper is to remove the compact support assumption of the initial data. It should be pointed out that the small data global existence result has been extended to more general 2-D quasilinear wave equations of the form \(\square u=F(u,\partial u,\partial^2 u)\) satisfying null conditions in [\textit{S. Katayama}, Global solutions and the asymptotic behavior for nonlinear wave equations with small initial data. Tokyo: Mathematical Society of Japan (2017; Zbl 1392.35002)] and [\textit{D. Zha}, J. Math. Pures Appl. (9) 123, 270--299 (2019; Zbl 1411.35210)] independently. Particularly, the compact support property of the initial data is also not assumed in the former.
