Consider the Grassmannian \(\mathrm{Gr}(2,5)\) of lines in \(\mathbb P^4\), with its Plücker embedding. Let \(V\) be a general threefold section of \(\mathrm{Gr}(2,5)\). \(V\) is a Del Pezzo threefold and contains infinitely many conics. Denote with \(R_2(V)\) the space which classifies smooth conics in \(V\), and call \(H_2(V)\) the closure of \(R_2(V)\) in the corresponding Hilbert scheme. Let \(M_2(V)\) be the compactification of \(R_2(V)\) in the Kontsevich space of stable maps \(C\to V\), where \(C\) is a curve of genus \(0\). The authors describe the birational relations between \(M_2(V)\) and \(H_2(V)\). If \(Y\) denotes the locus of double lines in \(H_2(V)\), then it turns out that \(M_2(V)\) corresponds to the blow up of \(H_2(V)\) along \(Y\). The authors obtain the classification by using a deformation arguments to prove that \(M_2(V)\) is smooth. The characterization makes the authors able to compute the virtual Poincaré polynomial of \(M_2(V)\).
