The authors consider continued fractions of generalized type for key elements of hyperelliptic field \(L\). They verify equivalence of periodicity of such continued fractions, the existence of nontrivial \(S\)-units in the field \(L\) for sets \(S\) consisting two valuations of degree one, and thev existence of a torsion of certain type in the Jacobian variety associated with hyperelliptic field \(L\). In practice, this theorem develops an effective algorithm to search fundamental \(S\)-units of hyperelliptic fields by means of certain generalized continued fractions. The equivalence of the above condition is further discussed in the hyperelliptic field of genus 3 as an example.
