The family of Banach function spaces (BFS) is a huge class of function spaces. In particular, this family contains the classical Lebesgue spaces and Orlicz spaces, as well as the Lorentz spaces. In this paper, the authors investigate relatively compact sets in BFS. Then, they obtain a characterization of relatively compact sets in BFS on locally compact groups, i.e., a Riesz-Kolmogorov-type theorem. Moreover, they provide a detailed discussion of the relatively compact sets in BFS on connected groups, and they prove a Sudakov-type theorem.
