Let \(D\) and \(d\) be positive integers and \(\varepsilon >0\). Let \(\{ a_n\}_{n=1}^\infty\) be a sequence of algebraic integers such that \(\max\deg a_n=d\) and \(| a_n| =| \overline{a_n}| \) where \(| \overline{x}| \) is the maximum of the conjugates in absolute value of the algebraic number \(x\). Suppose that \(\{| a_n|\}_{n=1}^\infty\) is increasing and \(| a_n| >n^{1+\varepsilon}\) for all sufficiently large \(n\). Assume that \(\mathrm{Re}(a_n)>0\) for all positive integers \(n\) or \(\mathrm{Im}(a_n)>0\) for all positive integers \(n\). Finally let \[ \limsup_{n\to\infty}| \overline{a_n}|^{\frac 1{D^n\prod_{i=1}^{n-1}(d^i+d)}}=\infty . \] Then the authors prove that \(\deg(\sum_{n=1}^\infty\frac 1{a_n})>D\). The proof is based on the idea of \textit{P. Erdős} [J. Math. Sci. 10, 1--7 (1975; Zbl 0372.10023)].
