Conditions that can be imposed on a ring to ensure commutativity have been studied extensively. Here, the authors continue such investigations in a \(\ast \)-prime ring where \(\ast \) is a convolution on the ring. The conditions imposed are related to Jordan ideals, generalizations of such ideals and derivations. A typical example of their results is given by: Let \(R\) be a \(\ast \)-prime ring with characteristic not \(2.\) Let \(\sigma \) and \(\tau \) be automorphisms of \(R\ \)that commute with \(\ast \) and let \(U\) be a non-zero additive subgroup of \(R\) with \(U^{\ast }=U.\) If \(u\sigma (r)+\tau (r)u\in U\) and \(r\sigma (u)+\tau (u)r\in U\) for all \(u\in U,r\in R\) and \(U\) is commutative, then \(R\) is commutative. Examples are provided to justify the necessity of some of the conditions imposed on the rings to derive the commutativity.
