In the short note, the author proves that if a completely regular semigroup with finite \(\mathcal{H}\)-classes possesses an idempotent-fixing automorphism of prime order, then it is an over-nilpotent semigroup. This generalizes the corresponding theorem for finite groups by Thompson to completely regular semigroups with finite \(\mathcal{H}\)-classes. Thompson's theorem was already generalized to finite inverse semigroups by \textit{J. Araújo} and \textit{M. Kinyon} [Semigroup Forum 89, No. 2, 469--474 (2014; Zbl 1307.20054)].
