This long and interesting paper gives various instances where amenability can be characterized via Hahn-Banach-type extensions. Let \(S\) be an algebraic semi-group. Considering the discrete topology on \(S\), it is known that the left amenability of \(S\) is equivalent to \(\ell^{\infty}(S)\) having a left invariant mean. Here, the authors show that this is equivalent to: Let \(E\) be a real separated locally convex space. Let \(S\) be a right linear set-valued action on \(E\). Let \(P:E \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) be a sublinear function such that \(P(s.x) \leq P(x)\) for all \(s \in S\) and for all \(x \in E\). Let \(F \subset E\) be an invariant subspace and let \(L\) be an invariant linear functional \(L \leq P\) on \(F\). Then there exists an invariant linear extension \(L'\) of \(L\) on \(E\) such that \(L' \leq P\).
