Let \(G\) and \(Y\) be topological groups. Then \(G\) is called \(g\)-barrelled with respect to \(Y\) if every subset \(K\) of the set of continuous homomorphisms from \(G\) to \(Y\) which is compact in the topology induced by \(Y^G\) (endowed with the product topology) is equicontinuous. The authors prove that if \(G\) is a Baire space and \(Y\) is a real topological vector space then \(G\) is \(g\)-barrelled with respect to \(Y\). However, \(Y\) cannot be replaced by an abelian topological group (see below). They also prove that every topological group which is a Namioka space (roughly speaking, a topological space for which Namioka's theorem on separate and joint continuity holds) is \(g\)-barrelled with respect to every metrizable group \(Y\). Further, they present an example of a topological group which is a Baire space and which is neither \(g\)-barrelled with respect to the cyclic group \(\mathbb Z(2)\) nor with respect to \(\mathbb T\). In this article a long list of examples of Namioka spaces is given. It is also pointed out that every completely regular Namioka space is a Baire space. Further, an example of a barrelled topological vector space \(E\) and a completely metrizable locally bounded topological vector space \(F\) and a sequence \((u_n)\) of continuous linear mappings \(E\to F\) is given such that \((u_n)\) converges pointwise to the \(0\)-function but \(\{u_n:\ n\in\mathbb N\}\) is not equicontinuous. For the entire collection see [Zbl 1419.46002].
