The result of the paper is twofold. Firstly, it provides a new integral inequality, which involves an estimate for the integral \(\int_a^b \dot x^T(s) Q \dot x(s) ds\). Second, using this integral inequality, a sufficient condition for the asymptotic stability for the following linear functional differential equation \[ \dot x(t)=Ax(t) + B\int_{t-h}^t x(s) ds,\quad x\in \mathbb{R}^n \] is obtained. Here \(A\) and \(B\) are constant \(n\times n\) matrices. This sufficent condition is formulated as an existence problem of four \(n\times n\) matrices.
