Let \(\Omega \subset R^N\) be a bounded open set. Let \(a,f\in L^1(\Omega )\) be such that \(|f(x)|\leq Qa(x)\) for some positive constant \(Q\). Suppose that \(M(x)\in L^\infty (\Omega,R^N)\) is a uniformly elliptic matrix on \(\Omega \). The authors prove the existence of a solution \(u\in W^{1,2}(\Omega )\cap L^\infty (\Omega )\) of the semilinear problem \(-\operatorname{div} (M(x)\nabla u(x)) +a(x)g(u(x))=f(x)\) in \(\Omega \), \(u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega \). Here \(g\) is a continuous function satisfying \(g(s)\to -\infty \) as \(s\to -\infty \), \(g(s)\to \infty \) as \(s\to \infty \). Further, it is studied the quasilinear boundary value problem \(-\operatorname{div} (\tilde M(x,u(x))\nabla u(x))+a(x)u(x)= B(x,u(x),\nabla u(x))+f(x)\) in \(\Omega \), \(u=0\) on \(\partial \Omega \), where \(\tilde M\in L^\infty (\Omega \times R^1,R^N)\) is a uniformly elliptic matrix, and \(B(x,s,\zeta )\) is a Carathéodory function satisfying \(|B(x,s,\zeta )| \leq \gamma |\zeta |^2\) for some positive constant \(\gamma \). It is proved the existence of a bounded solution of the problem in \(W^{1,2}(\Omega )\).
