The authors study the equation \[ w^{\prime\prime}w+aw^2 \left(1-\int_{\mathbb{R}}\phi(x-y)w(y)dy\right) - \sigma w=0 \eqno(1) \] for \[ \phi(x)=\begin{cases} 1,&|x|\leq N,\\ 0,&|x|>N,\end{cases} \] where \(N\) is a positive constant. They show that if \(a>1/h_0\) and \(N\) is large, then (1) has an even positive solution with \(w(\pm\infty)=0\). Here, \[ h_0=\frac{1}{4\int_{\mathbb{R}} w_1(y)dy} \] and \(w_1(x)\) is the solution of the equation \[ w^{\prime\prime}+w^2-\sigma w=0 \] with \(w(x)>0\) for \(x\in \mathbb{R}\), \(w(\pm\infty)=0\) and \(w(x)=w(-x)\). The method is based on the spectral properties of the linearized operator and the implicit function theorem.
