Let \(\mathfrak{g}\) be a semisimple complex finite dimensional Lie algebra and \(\mathfrak{p}\) a parabolic subalgebra in \(\mathfrak{g}\). The paper under review studies singular vectors in generalized Verma \(\mathfrak{g}\)-modules induced from simple finite dimensional \(\mathfrak{p}\)-modules. The author proposes some sufficient and necessary conditions, formulated in combinatorial and elementary geometric terms, for the existence of singular weight vectors of a certain weight in a generalized Verma module. Applications of these results include some sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence of first order invariant differential operators.
