In general, for a finite dimensional Hopf algebra \(H\) the Hopf structures of \(H\) and its dual \(H^*\) are rather different. Although they are different, we still know that the centers \(D(H)\) and \(D(H^*)\) are gauge equivalent and thus \(H\) and \(H^*\) have equivalent Yetter-Drinfeld modules. Comparing to \(H^*\), which can be considered as a total dual of \(H\), this paper considers a kind of partial dual as follows. Given a Hopf algebra projection \(H\to A\), by Radford biproduct we know that \(H=K\#A\) and \(K\) is a Hopf algebra in the braided tensor category \(^A_A\mathcal{YD}\). Let \(B=A^*\) or generally assume that there is a non-degenerate Hopf pairing \(\omega\colon A\otimes B\to K\). Then one can find that \(K\) is still a Hopf algebra in \(^B_B\mathcal{YD}\). Therefore, we get a Hopf algebra \(K\#B\) which is the partial dual of \(H\). The authors also find that \(H\) and its partial dual have equivalent Yetter-Drinfeld modules (as braided tensor categories). Moreover, the authors go further and they show that the above constructions can be done in a more general setting, i.e. \(H\) is a Hopf algebra in a braided tensor category \(\mathcal C\). At last, the authors give us many examples to show the connections between their partial dual and some well known constructions in Hopf algebras and quantum groups, in particular the reflection of generalized quantum groups.
