In this study the author consider a Cauchy problem associated to a fourth order nonlinear Schrödinger type equation defined on a torus. The problem is studied under periodical boundary conditions. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation approached describes the three-dimensional motion of an isolated vortex filament/ring embedded in inviscid incompressible fluid fulfilled in the space \(\mathbb{R}^3\). The work can be divided into two parts. In the first part it is proposed a refinement of the modified energy method and then, based on this new method, the author proves the unique existence of the global solution for the above mentioned problem in a particularly convenient energy space. The second part of the work is dedicated to study of the stability property of periodic standing waves for the Cauchy problem. Taking into account the spectrum properties of the Schrödinger operators associated to the periodic standing wave, the author proves that the standing wave of dnoidal type is orbitally stable under the time evolution. The results do not seem to be very new because J. A. Pava has some results in this area since 2005.
