Let \(K\) be an algebraic number field with class-number \(h\geq 3\), let \(G_k\) be the set of integers of \(K\) having at most \(k\) factorizations into irreducibles having distinct lengths, and denote by \(G_k(x)\) the number of principal ideals of norm \(\leq x\), generated by elements of \(G_k\). In a previous paper [Acta Arith. 163, No. 2, 179-198 (2014; Zbl 1306.11076)] the author has proved that for \(k\geq 2\) the error term in the asymptotic formula for \(G_k(x)\) (see e.g. Chap. 9 in the book of \textit{A. Geroldinger} and \textit{F. Halter-Koch} [Non-unique factorizations. Algebraic, combinatorial and analytic theory. Pure and Applied Mathematics (Boca Raton) 278. Boca Raton: Chapman \& Hall/CRC (2006; Zbl 1113.11002)]) has oscillations of logarithmic frequency and size of the order \(x^{1/2}\log^{-M}x\) with some \(M\). In this paper the author proves a series of technical results about the structural properties of a class of Krull monoids which will permit in the sequel of this paper to obtain this result also in the case \(k=1\).
