Let \(\Sigma\) be a \(C^3\) compact symmetric convex hypersurface in \(\mathbb R^8\); i.e., \(\Sigma\) is the boundary of a compact and strictly convex region in \(\mathbb R^8\). The authors show that when \(\Sigma\) carries exactly four geometrically distinct closed characteristics, then all of them must be symmetric. This gives an affirmative answer to a conjecture by \textit{H. Hofer} et al. [Ann. Math. (2) 148, No. 1, 197--289 (1998; Zbl 0944.37031)]. Due to the example of weakly non-resonant ellipsoids (see, for example, [\textit{C.-g. Liu} et al., Math. Ann. 323, No. 2, 201--215 (2002; Zbl 1005.37030)]), this result is sharp.
