Let \(X\) be a complex projective manifold that is uniruled, i.e. there exists a family of rational curves \(\mathbb P^1 \rightarrow X\) that dominates \(X\). We say that a dominating family of rational curves \(\mathcal K\) is minimal if for a general point \(x \in X\), the subfamily \(\mathcal K_x\) of curves passing through \(x\) is projective. There is a natural morphism \(\mathcal K_x \rightarrow \mathbb P(T_{X,x})\) which associates to a general curve its tangent direction at the marked point \(x\), and its image is called the variety of minimal rational tangents \(\mathcal C_x\). The geometric study of VMRT-structures is guided by the idea that one can recover the geometry of \(X\) from the (total) VRMT \(\mathcal C(X)\), at least when \(X\) is a Fano manifold with Picard number one. A fundamental result due to the author and \textit{N. Mok} [J. Math. Pures Appl., IX. Sér. 80, No. 6, 563--575 (2001; Zbl 1033.32013)] states that if \(X\) and \(Z\) are Fano manifolds of Picard number one with families of minimal rational curves \(\mathcal K_X\) and \(\mathcal K_Z\) with positive-dimensional VMRTs and such that for some Euclidean open subset \(S \subset Z\) we have an embedding \(\varphi: S \hookrightarrow X\) mapping the VMRTs onto each other (in a way that is compatible with the second fundamental form), then \(\varphi\) extends to a biregular morphism \(\Phi: Z \rightarrow X\). This result was extended by \textit{J. Hong} and \textit{N. Mok} [J. Differ. Geom. 86, No. 3, 539--567 (2010; Zbl 1230.14057)] to the case where the VMRTs are no longer of the same dimension, but assuming that for \(z \in S\) the tangent map \(d \varphi_z : T_{Z, z} \rightarrow T_{X, z}\) identifies \(\mathcal C_{Z, z}\) with the intersection \(\mathcal C_{X, z} \cap \mathbb P(T_{Z, z}) \subset \mathbb P(T_{X, z})\). In this case the morphism \(\varphi\) extends to a rational map \(\Phi: Z \dashrightarrow X\). In the paper under review the author gives a simplified proof of this statement using natural foliations on the total VMRT. This new proof also yields that the technical condition on the tangent map is only that the \(\mathcal C_{Z, z}\) maps into the \(\mathcal C_{X, z}\).
