A Banach space \(X\) has the approximation property (AP) if the identity operator on \(X\) is in the closure of the finite rank operators on \(X\), \(F(X)\), in the topology, \(\tau_c\), of uniform convergence on compact subsets of \(X\). The authors consider the following versions of the AP introduced by \textit{C. Choi} and \textit{J. M. Kim} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 316, No.~2, 722--735 (2006; Zbl 1098.46016)]: \(X\) has the weak approximation property (WAP) if the space of compact operators, \(K(X)\), is in the \(\tau_c\) closure of \(F(X)\) and \(X\) has the \(\lambda\)-bounded WAP if for every \(T \in K(X)\) we have that \(T\) is in the \(\tau_c\) closure of the set \(\{S \in F(X) : \|S\|\leq \lambda\|T\|\}\). It is shown that if \(Z\) is a locally \(\mu\)-complemented subspace of a Banach space \(X\) with the \(\lambda\)-bounded WAP, then \(Z\) has the \((2\mu+4)\mu\lambda\)-bounded WAP. A characterization of the WAP and the \(\lambda\)-bounded WAP in terms of locally 1-complemented subspaces and separable subspaces is also given.
