The paper describes some properties of open neighbourhoods of zero in absolute semi-valued rings with identity. The paper deals with a generalisation of the concept of open unit ball from the case of real or complex normed spaces to the case of unital absolute semi-valued rings. An absolute semi-value on a ring \(R\) is a map \(|\cdot|\colon R\to\mathbb R\), which satisfies the following conditions: (1) \(|r|\geqslant 0\) for every \(r\in R\); (2) \(|\theta_R|=0\); (3) \(|rs|=|r||s|\) for all \(r,s\in R\); (4) \(|r+s|\leqslant|r|+|s|\) for all \(r,s\in R\).
