Embedding theorems of the type \[ \text{ id}: \quad B^{s_1}_{p_1,q_1} (\mathbb R^n) \to B^{s_2}_{p_2,q_2} (\mathbb R^n) \] and trace theorems \[ \text{ tr}: \quad B^s_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n) \to B^{s- \frac{n-d}{p}}_{p,q} (\mathbb R^d), \] \(0<d<n\), are central topics of the theory of Besov spaces. The trace assertion remains valid if one replaces \(\mathbb R^d\) by a fractal \(d\)-set. It is the main aim of this paper to extend this theory to Besov spaces \(B^\tau_{p,q} (\Gamma)\) on so-called \(h\)-sets, generalizing \(d\)-sets. The related spaces \(B^\tau_{p,q} (\Gamma)\) are defined as traces of Besov spaces \(B^\sigma_{p,q} (\mathbb R^n)\) where both \(\sigma\) and \(\tau\) indicate generalized smoothness. Most of the results have final character in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions for the underlying parameters. Special attention is paid if \(L_r (\Gamma)\) is admitted as a possible target space.
