The paper studies associative and co-associative submanifolds in a \(G_2\)-manifold \(Y\) with a free \(G\)-action, where \(G\) is either \(S^1\) or \(S^1\times S^1\); see [\textit{V. Apostolov} and \textit{S. Salamon}, Commun. Math. Phys. 246, No. 1, 43--61 (2004; Zbl 1067.53039)] and [\textit{M. Atiyah} and \textit{E. Witten}, Adv. Theor. Math. Phys. 6, No. 1, 1--106 (2002; Zbl 1033.81065)]. It constructs examples of (co)associative submanifolds on \(G_2\)-manifolds that have \(G\) symmetry or are orthogonal to \(G\)-orbits, and characterises them in the quotient \(Y/G\). When \(G\) is the circle, the author proves a result similar, in the spirit of \textit{R. L. Bryant}'s characterisation [J. Differ. Geom. 17, 185--232 (1982; Zbl 0526.53055)] of associative cones in \(\mathbb{R}^7\) via pseudoholomorphic curves in \(S^6\), replacing the \(\mathbb{R}_+\) action with an \(S^1\) action.\smallbreak In the case \(G=T^2\), using multi-moment maps [\textit{T. B. Madsen} and \textit{A. Swann}, Adv. Math. 229, No. 4, 2287--2309 (2012; Zbl 1238.53017)], it is shown that there exists a smooth map \(Y/T^2 \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) whose fibres are almost hyper-Kähler 2-folds. This allows to reconstruct a \(G_2\)-structure from the quotient.
