The main contribution concerns completely normal families of functions, i.e., the families \(A(T)\) of functions \(f:T\to\mathbb R\) which form algebras and lattices with a unit which are closed under the division by nonzero elements, and under the point-wise limits of sequences. The authors recall results of G.~Regoli. He gave a characterization of completely normal families as families of functions measurable with respect to some \(\sigma\)-algebra of sets in \(T\). He also gave a characterization of completely normal envelopes (closures) in the case of vector-lattices containing a unit. The main result is the description of the completely normal envelope for general families \(A(T)\) as the set of functions which are measurable with respect to the \(\sigma\)-algebra generated by the preimages \(f^{-1}(I)\) of open intervals \(I\) by the elements \(f\) of \(A(T)\). Some additional characterizations of completely normal families as the closure with respect to point-wise convergence of particular families of generating functions are deduced from the authors' former results.
