The authors study the best canonical n-term approximation of a function \(f\in L^2(0, 1)\) of the family \(\mathbb{I}\) of characteristic functions of intervals lying in the interval \((0, 1)\): \(\mathbb{I} = {I_w, w\subset(0, 1)}\), where \(w=(\alpha, \beta)\subset(0, 1) \). An necessary condition for an arbitrary tight frame \(\Phi\) is estimated.
