For an affine scheme \(X\), a finite-dimensional Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\) and a finite group \(\Gamma\) acting on both \(X\) and \(\mathfrak{g}\), the equivariant map algebra is defined as the Lie algebra of \(\Gamma\)-equivariant algebraic maps from \(X\) to \(\mathfrak{g}\). Equivariant map algebras contain several classes of Lie algebras, such as generalized current algebras, multiloop algebras and generalized Onsagar algebras, and so on. The classification of finite-dimensional irreducible modules over an equivariant map algebra has previously given by the authors and \textit{P. Senesi} in [\textit{E. Neher} et al., Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 364, No. 5, 2619--2646 (2012; Zbl 1284.17003)], which asserts that every such module is isomorphic to the tensor product of an evaluation module and a one-dimensional module. In the paper under review, the authors determine the extensions of finite-dimensional irreducible modules over an equivariant map algebra in the case where \(X\) is of finite type and \(\mathfrak{g}\) is reductive. As a consequence, they also describe the block decomposition of the category of finite-dimensional modules in terms of ``spectral characters''. These results for some special equivariant map algebras such as generalized current algebras have already been known, but the proofs are different. In the paper under review, the authors use results on the cohomology of Lie algebras such as the Hochschild-Serre spectral sequence. Moreover in other cases including multiloop algebras and generalized Onsager algebras, these are new results.
