In this paper authors study the initial value problem (IVP) for the \(k\)-dispersion generalized Benjamin-Ono (DGBO) equation \[ \begin{cases} \partial_t u - D^{\beta}\partial_x u +\partial_x (u^{k+1}) = 0, \quad t, x\in \mathbb R,\, k\in \mathbb N,\, 1\leq \beta <2,\\ u(x,0) = u_0(x), \end{cases} \tag{1} \] where \(D^s\) denotes the homogeneous derivative of order \(s\in \mathbb R\). For \(\beta =1\), this family includes the Benjamin-Ono equation and for \(\beta =2\) it reduces to the Korteweg-de Vries equation. Their aim is to prove global well-posedness for (1) in the energy space \(H^{\beta /2}(\mathbb R)\) in the supercritical regime, \(k>2\beta \). Regarding local well-posedness in such energy space and for \(\beta >1,\) they solve (1) with the help of smoothing effects and maximal function estimates satisfied by the linear flow and Picard argument. For \(\beta =1\), the Benjamin-Ono equation, and for \(k\geq 5,\) local solutions from previous work by Molinet and Ribaud are considered. They extend these local solutions to global ones by means of a priori estimates which are obtained via energy estimates, \(L^2(\mathbb R)\) and \(H^{\beta /2}(\mathbb R)\) conservation laws, and knowledge of the best constant in a Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality which relates to ground state solutions in (1) and allows the authors to establish sharp conditions on the initial data that guarantee such a priori estimates.
