A subset \(Y\) of a Banach space \((X,\| \cdot \|)\) is a Chebyshev set if each \(x\) in \(X\) has a unique closest point \(Px\) in \(Y\). This paper explores connections between two constants related to \(P\), the metric projection associated with \(Y\), under the additional assumption that \(Y\) is a linear space. The constants are the linearity coefficient, \(l\), defined by: \[ l = \inf \{ \| s+t-P(s+t)\| / \|s+t\| : s + t \not= 0 , Ps = 0 = Pt \}; \] and the Lipschitz constant, \(k\), defined by: \[ k = \sup \{ \| Ps-Pt\| / \|s-t\| : s+t \}. \] The linearity coefficient is a non-negative number not exceeding \(1\), and is equal \(1\) if and only if \(P\) is a linear mapping. This research concerns \(X\) being the Banach space of continuous, real functions defined on a compact Hausdorff space, and \(Y\) the one-dimensional linear space of all real multiples of a positive valued, continuous function \(f\). The author calculates \(l\) in terms of \(f\). This permits new estimates for \(k\) in this specific setting.
