The authors study the invariants of imploded cross sections in case of the universal example for \(SU(3)\). The universal imploded cross section for \(SU(3)\) contracts to a point but its topological invariants are not all trivial. The intersection cohomology is computed and it is found that this invariant distinguishes it from the intersection cohomology of a point. After the definition of the imploded cross section of an Hamiltonian \(K\)-space \((M,\omega)\) the author present some results obtained in [\textit{V. Guillemin} et al., Transform. Groups 7, No. 2, 155--184 (2002; Zbl 1015.53054)]. The intersection cohomology is presented by using the results from the monograph \textit{F. Kirwan} and \textit{J. Woolf} [An introduction to intersection homology theory. 2nd ed. Boca Raton, FL: Chapman \& Hall/CRC (2006; Zbl 1106.55001)]. The authors study this intersection in the case of \(SU(3)\). The main result is Theorem 4.2. The intersection cohomology of the universal imploded cross section of \(SU(3)\) is \(IH^j((T^*SU(3))_{impl})= \mathbb{R}\) for \(j=0,4\) and \(0\) for \(j=1,2,3\) and \(j\geq 5\).
