The aim of the paper is to generalize to the case of locally quasi-unmixed domains and asymptotic sequences the results obtained in the paper of \textit{W. J. Heinzer} et al. [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 354, No. 5, 1811--1835 (2002; Zbl 0986.13006)], in the case of locally Cohen-Macaulay domains and regular sequences. More precisely, the authors are investigating monoidal transforms of locally quasi-unmixed domains. It is shown that if \(A\) is a locally quasi-unmixed domain and \(I=(a,b_1,\ldots,b_n)\) is an ideal of \(A\) generated by an asymptotic sequence, then the monoidal transform \(S=A[\frac{I}{a}]\) is a locally quasi-unmixed domain, the sequence \(\{a,\frac{b_1}{a},\ldots,\frac{b_n}{a}\}\) is an asymptotic sequence of \(S\) and there is a one-to-one correspondence between the asymptotic primes of \(I\) and the asymptotic primes of \(aS=IS.\) If moreover \(A\) is a UFD, the question of how far is \(S\) from being a UFD is investigated. Applications to the Rees rings are given.
