    A bounded operator \(T\) on a separable Hilbert space \(H\) is said to be complex symmetric if there exists an orthonormal basis for \(H\) with respect to which \(T\) has a self-transpose matrix representation. Given a holomorphic self-map \(\varphi\) of the unit disk \(\mathbb{D}\), the authors study the complex symmetry of the composition operator \(C_\varphi f=f\circ\varphi\) on the Hardy space \(H^2\). Related problems were recently formulated by \textit{S. R. Garcia} and \textit{C. Hammond} [in: Concrete operators, spectral theory, operators in harmonic analysis and approximation. 22nd international workshop in operator theory and its applications, IWOTA 11, Sevilla, Spain, 2011. Basel: Birkhäuser/Springer. 171--179 (2014; Zbl 1343.47034)]. The authors prove the following results: {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] If \(\varphi\) is an arbitrary holomorphic self-map of \(\mathbb{D}\) and \(C_\varphi\) is complex symmetric, then \(\varphi\) must fix a point in \(\mathbb{D}\). \item[(2)] If \(\varphi\) is an automorphism which is not a rotation or elliptic of order \(3\), then \(C_\varphi\) is complex symmetric if and only if \[ \varphi(z)= \frac{\alpha-z}{1-\overline{\alpha}z} \] for some \(\alpha\in \mathbb{D}\setminus \{0\}\). \end{itemize}}
