      A special case of the modification of Lagrange interpolation due to Bernstein is considered as follows: \[ B_{n}(f,x) := B_{n,1}(f,x) = \sum_{i=1}^{[n/2]} \, f(x_{2i-1}) \{ l_{2i-1}(x)+l_{2i}(x) \} + (n-2[n/2]) f(x_{n}) l_{n}(x), \] where \(x_{i} := x_{in} = \cos t_{i},\) \(t_{i} := \frac{2i-1}{2n} \pi,\) \(i = 1,2,\ldots, n\) are the roots of the Chebyshev polynomial \(T_{n}(x) := \cos nt,\) \(x = \cos t,\) and \[ l_{i}(x) := l_{in}(x) = \frac{T_{n}(x)}{T'_{n}(x)(x-x_{i})} = \frac{(-1)^{i+1} \cos nt \sin t_{i}}{n(\cos t - \cos t_{i})}, \;i = 1,2,\ldots, n \] are the fundamental polynomials \((x \neq x_{i})\) in the Lagrange interpolation. For the operator \(B_{n}(f,x)\) upper and lower estimates for the rate of convergence are given, and the saturation problem is partially solved.
